About Gus Friedlander
Gus Friedlander, a native of Evanston, Illinois, plays
four-and-five-string banjos, mandolin, flatpick guitar, fiddle, bouzouki
and bass. Mainly self-taught, he makes his living teaching private
lessons, concentrating on bluegrass, Irish, and swing music. Gus
leads the Whiskey Hollow Bluegrass Band and the Prohibition Orchestra of
Chicago, a ten-piece group that plays hot jazz and dance music of the
1920s using authentic period arrangements. He's been involved with
the Chicago area Irish music scene for many years, and since 2004 has
led a weekly traditional session at the Celtic Knot in Evanston.
